ADDING CLAY TO YOUR ROAD BASE
SUCCESS IN EL SALVADOR
  PROJECT DETAILS

RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION PROCEDURES FOR
ENVIROSEAL LBS™

1). Spread the borrow clay onto the selected road base. Dry the soil in the test area to 10% - moisture content. Use a patrol or grader with a sacrificer, an agriculture disk attachment, and or a pulverizer as shown in the pictures below: Make sure that the area has been thoroughly blended with borrow clay if necessary, so that the total blend material equals a 30 to 35% clay content. Ideally the balance of the material, will be a good mix of 1 1/2" minus, sand and gravel. If there is no possibility of adding clay then the next best additive is lime, fly ash or cement dust. Unfortunately, lime and cement are an expensive alternative and fly ash does not produce sufficient strength properties.

2). Add the LBS™ in a concentration ratio of one drum of 55 gallons/208 liters to 1,500 gallons or 5600 ltrs of water. Each drum of LBS™ will cover an area of 330 M long 6 M wide and 20 CM deep . It is best to use a water truck with a spray bar or a pulverizer with an injection kit. The injection kit will introduce the precise amount of LBS™ needed. The proper application rate is 2.25 liters per meter square or gallon per square yard. Your soil moisture content should rise to approximately 35% to 40%. If your moistures are not to this range, not enough liquid LBS™ has been added.

3). Use the disk or pulverizer to thoroughly blend the LBS™ into the soil. It will take at least 4 passes with the disk unit but only one (1) with the pulverizer. Your object is to mix and lower the moisture percentage. Grade the soil with the grader or patrol to the finish grade.

4). When you have achieved the proper moisture content, start the compacting with a vibratory roller. Keep compacting until small cracks in the surface are visible. (This is the first indication of over compaction) you have reached a soil moisture of less than 10%. This is a very critical step. You may add additional water at this time if your engineer desires, then finish your compaction Your soil moisture should be less than 10%, and you will have reached a proctor of at least 95%. After two hours you are ready to apply the 2001 polymeric sealer. Apply the 2001 with the water spray truck in a concentration of 8 parts water to 1 part Enviroseal 2001 for a dirt road.. If an asphalt surface is desired, use a concentration of 15.1 to 18.1 of LDC™. This will provide a sealer for several months prior to asphalt application.

To achieve a black polymeric asphalt type surface. Wait 2 hours and complete finish compacting. The compacting can be done with or without vibration. The finished road will reach full strength within 28 days. It is however strong enough to support traffic during the construction and immediately after the compacting and sealing process. The finished road has achieved a 98% proctor. Our dealer network has reported another successful road application .The government is going to use Enviroseal Products for over 1,000 kilometers of secondary road projects this year.
